Canoe club given new boats by parents’ association

Canoeist

Kayakers in our canoe club have four brand new boats thanks to the generosity of the Stopfordian Parents’ Association (SPA).

Canoeist Sam Curwen was one of the first to use them in the school swimming pool and he is really pleased with the new kayaks:

It’s great to have these new boats, they are so much more responsive than the old ones!

Canoe club with Mr Johnson

Canoe club takes place after school on Thursdays and is run by teacher Mr Malcolm Johnson, a former flat water professional who retired from the sport in 2004.

He would like to thank the SPA for providing the boats and hopes that he will be able to introduce many more pupils to the sport in the near future.

Mr Johnson has experience of competing in world championships, world cups and European championships and has commentated on the sport at the London 2012 and the 2004 Athens Olympics for Eurosport.
