Primary schools compete in annual maths challenge

Maths Challenge

Our annual year five maths challenge took place this week, we were delighted to welcome 41 teams from local primary schools for a competition full of fun maths activities.

The first round started off as a team exercise with the children answering a selection of questions together.

The second round was a team relay. The children sat in a row with the first in line answering a question which would form the next step of an equation for the pupil behind them to solve.

For the third round, the teams were split into two groups. Once the first half of the team answered a question correctly they would take the next question to the other half of their team. They continued to pass back and forth until they had answered as many questions as they could within half an hour.

Head of Mathematics Mr Frankland was highly impressed with the standard of maths and with the children’s enthusiasm for the subject.  All teams did brilliantly and a huge thank you to maths teacher Tony Cheslett who organised the event.

Senior Deputy Head David Howson presented the prizes. Congratulations to all of the children who joined us and represented their school.
