Dancers star in Stockport celebration

Dance Festival

Dancers took to the stage to perform in this year’s Showcase of Dance at The Plaza Theatre.

In an exciting evening dedicated to celebrating the talent of young dancers from Stockport’s secondary schools and colleges, Stockport Grammar was chosen to perform two dance routines.

Entrance of the swans

Part of the PE curriculum this year, the third year dancers have studied Matthew Bourne’s famous interpretation of Swan Lake. Working with dance teacher Mrs Downing, pupils learnt several motifs from Bourne’s choreography and created sequences of their own to reflect his style.

Performers: Leah Bird, Olivia Cleere, Megan Higgins, Lucy Howling, Alice Kirker, Maya Medagoda, Milly Nickisson, Grace Patterson, Gwen Rayworth, Kitty Taylor, Annabel Tordoff and Bryony White.

I got rhythm

Pupils chose this piece themselves, creating their own tap dance routine to the music.

Performers: Imogen Belshaw, Molly Clark, Emily Daniels, Lucy Daniels, Amy Earith, Megan Higgins, Harriet Lambon Ralph, Jessica Lloyd, Charlotte Mitchell, Ellie Rasheed, Lily Rathore, Ziyuan Wang, Laura Welch and Rachel Whatley.

The evening was a fantastic demonstration of our talented, dedicated and enthusiastic dancers.
