Manchester and Salford’s architecture provided our sixth form pupils taking A-level Art with inspiration for their portfolios as part of their coursework.
The group visited the industrial features of Castlefield which made for a fantastic environment in which our newest group of A-level artists could sketch. They moved to the city’s Northern Quarter to capture the area’s graffitied walls and alternative appearance.
During the afternoon they visited the modern developments on the waterfront of Salford Quays, with the contrast between the Victorian canals and the brand new buildings supplying some valuable source material.
The drawings from our artists’ days in the two cities will go on to form the foundation of the rest of the term’s work. Their outcomes will also be seen in the final show at the end of the academic year.
