Our junior school pupils loved being entertained by illustrator Sarah McIntyre and author Philip Reeve who have collaborated on a new series of hilarious adventure books.
Key stage two pupils were full of enthusiasm for Mcintyre and Reeve as they came to launch their third book Pugs of the Frozen North as part of their quirky roadshow. The story is about a race to the top of the world by a sledge powered by 66 pugs.
The event began with them reading extracts from their book before demonstrating their quirky imaginations and drawing skills by getting the children involved in creating their own board game. They split the children into two teams and with a giant dice played a fun and interactive game based on the adventures and characters from the story.
Sarah and Philip brought in wool to describe the imaginative snow varieties that feature in their stories, getting the children to guess what each kind of snow did. They also asked the children to come equipped with pencils and paper and Sarah taught them how to draw their very own pug.
The children showed great enthusiasm for the whole event, cheering and clapping and getting excited about the activities Sarah and Philip had so well prepared.
Before ending the event with a book signing, the entertaining authors sang their very own song accompanied by the ukulele while encouraging the pupils to join in on the chorus.
Amaya North from 5W loved the assembly, she said:
I enjoyed it all, the race game was my favourite. It was all great and really good fun.
