Our year five pupils found themselves in the middle of a performance of Macbeth when the Young Shakespeare Company came to perform at school.
The theatre group brought Shakespeare’s tragedy to life, using the children to help create dramatic scenes. They made the sounds of thunder and lightening as the actors performed the mysterious scene of the witches on the heath.
Volunteers from the audience were also given the chance to take speaking parts in the play, and were encouraged to explore the motives, thoughts and feelings of the characters throughout.
It was a wonderful experience with superb acting both by the actors and our talented year 5! The witches were suitably haunting and scary, mesmerising the children with their actions and Macbeth kept them enthralled throughout with a stunning interpretation of the troubled King.
After Christmas, the year group will start learning about Shakespeare’s plays in more detail before going on to perform some of his works in the courtyard in the summer.
