Fine food, quality conversation and treasured memories were the order of the day for 71 Old Stops attending Old Stopfordians’ Association Annual Dinner in the Hallam Hall following the Founder’s Day Service.
The annual event is organised by the OSA Committee and provides Old Stops with an excellent opportunity to catch up with their old friends.
Guests were treated to delightful four course meal after which the current OSA President, Mr David Garrett (OS 1981), proposed the Loyal Toast. Mr Tony Cheslett (OS 1973) continued the toasts with a dedication to Stockport Grammar School and the Pious Founder in which he highlighted and congratulated current pupils’ preservation of the Shaa legacy through their hard work, character and personal values which has seen many pupils commit to charitable endeavours, including EducAid. EducAid is a charity committed to delivering high quality education and support to vulnerable young Sierra Leoneans who would otherwise not benefit from education; a cause the School’s founder, Sir Edmund Shaa, would himself have been proud of.
Junior School Headmaster, Mr Tim Wheeler, gave a response acknowledging the legacy that Stockport Grammar Infant and Junior School pupils are embracing and carrying forward with enthusiasm and passion.
Mr Paul Carr (OS 1971) then raised a toast to the Old Stopfordians’ Association and the President, with a response by the President, Mr David Garrett (OS 1981), who gave his thanks to the event organisers and supporters, Mr David Withington (OS 1963), Ms Olivia Hegarty (OS 1992) and Mr Stuart Helm (OS 1964), and also the Headmaster. He went on to note how Stockport Grammar School has educated and inspired three generations of his family, not least his father, Mr Charles Garrett, who through the support of his experience at Stockport Grammar School, went on to design wooden propeller blades for the Spitfire and Hurricane planes.
After the meal guests were able to mingle and catch up with old friends and fellow contemporaries.
