Trip to Quarry Bank not “run of the mill”

Children from Year One spent an exciting day at Quarry Bank Mill where they continued their Science topic on ‘materials’.

As well as having an interesting tour of the cotton mill, where the children experienced what it would have been like to work in the mill, the children completed a ‘textiles’ session where they used carders and a spinning wheel. The children felt and described many materials and developed their weaving skills using a shuttle.

Stanley from 1B really liked seeing the Spinning Jenny and Evelyn, also from 1B, said “I liked seeing the water wheel – it was really big.” For Maya (1B) and Musty (1R) however, their favourite part was “when we got to use carders on the wool”.

As you can see from the pictures and the comments, the children certainly enjoyed their day out!
