The First XI Hockey team produced a determined defence of their National Schools Championship crown but it was not to be as they came away empty handed but full of pride at having reached the National Finals for the second consecutive year.
The girls travelled to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London where they faced Clifton College, Kingston Grammar School and Repton School in Pool E.
The team kicked off their defence against Clifton College but despite bossing possession they lost 3-0. Next up they faced Kingston Grammar where a win was needed, and that victory duly came as the girls saw off the opposition 2-1.
The final game in the Pool saw the team come up against a strong Repton School squad. Despite a goal from Lily Wolstenholme, the team were on the wrong end of a 5-1 defeat and therefore bowed out of the competition.
The team did exceptionally well at reaching the Finals and putting in such strong performances. The school would like to thank Silver Fx and Mr Hall from Swagelok for their sponsorship and the parents of the players who made the trip possible.
The fact that Repton School went on to win the competition just goes to show the high calibre of opposition in the tournament and the girls did the school proud.
