The Junior school cricket teams have been able to get their preparations for the new season underway in the best fashion possible thanks to the purchase of a Flicx 2G mat.
The Summer term heralds the commencement of the cricket season and players will face teams from schools including Cheadle Hulme, Altrincham Grammar, King’s School Chester, King’s School Macclesfield, Manchester Grammar, Birkenhead, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Merchant Taylors as well as participating in competitions such as the Kwik Cricket tournament and the Independent Association of Prep Schools 6-a-side competition.
The new portable pitch, which is located in a batting cage on the astroturf in front of the school, provides a more realistic and consistent bounce for batsmen as well as assisting and encouraging both spin and fast bowlers.
PE teacher and cricket coach Mr David Makinson said: “The mat will be a valuable coaching aid for the children. The various coloured tiles highlight the lines and lengths bowlers should be seeking to pitch the ball and they also provide a good indication to the batsman if they should be playing front or back foot shots. The tiles can be moved to further test the children’s ability to land their deliveries on more specific target areas.”
Fingers crossed for a long, hot, sunny term!
