Junior School pupils have had an active few weeks with teams competing against numerous other schools in a range of sports.
First up in the rugby the school sent a team to the AJIS Rugby Tournament at Merchant Taylor’s School.
The boys started off well by winning all of their group stage games thanks to good running and strong tackling. A resounding 7-1 win over Merchant Taylor’s ‘B’ team was swiftly followed by a 6-1 victory over Rossall with a 5-1 win over AKS Lytham rounding off the group games. These results meant that the team went through to the quarter finals as group winners.
In the next round they met King’s Macclesfield in a tough encounter and despite competing well they were on the wrong end of a 3-1 score line. The action was not over however as the team dropped into the Plate competition and drama ensued as a last minute try against Cheadle Hulme sent Stockport Grammar into the Plate final. The final was just one game too far for the boys however as they went down 3-1 to Grange School.
Although the tournament may not have ended with winner’s medals it was certainly an enjoyable day for the team.
The Year 6 Football team embarked on their annual tour of the North West as they played two different schools and took in a Championship game.
First they took on King’s Chester with three games being played. The A team won a very close encounter 2-1 thanks to two goals from Harry Williams whilst the B’s and C’s were slightly less successful as both suffered defeats.
The boys then travelled to St. Anne’s on the Fylde Coast for an evening meal and a run around the beach and playground before retiring to bed exhausted!
The next day the tour group made their way to Westholme School in Blackburn where a mini competition was organised with Stockport Grammar fielding three 6-a-side teams and the home school having two. A full hour and a half of football – and four games per team – later it was time to move on to the Macron Stadium to watch the Bolton Wanderers v Preston North End Championship match.
The boys conducted themselves excellently on the trip and even earned praise from the restaurant and hotel staff about how well behaved they were.
Finally, the Under 10 Netball team competed in the AJIS Tournament at King’s School, Macclesfield. In the first round they won all of their matches and therefore made it to the latter stages in the afternoon.
In the semi-final they came up against Bolton School and the girls put in a great performance to defeat them and reach the final where they faced Oldham Hulme Grammar School.
The team started off well and went into the half time break with a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately Oldham Hulme had the upper hand in the second half and ended by winning the tie 9-7. All the girls played magnificently and did themselves, and the school, proud.
At the Under 11 AJIS Netball Tournament at Bury, the Year 6 girls came second in the morning round, taking them through to the cup competition in the afternoon with a final position of sixth place.
