Tennis stars have an ace time at regional finals

It was celebration time for our tennis boys and girls as they tasted success at the regional finals.

After winning the Lawn Tennis Association’s Team Tennis for Schools Division Two in the summer term, second year girls Natasha Witts, Eleanor Merrifield, Emily Edwards and Katie Hewetson took to the courts at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds for the Northern regional finals.

The girls faced Queen Mary’s School in their first game and a strong display saw them defeat the opposition 10-2. This victory meant that they would come up against AKS Lytham in the final.

The players put in an impressive performance that blew the opposition away and left the team from Lancashire without a point in a title-winning 12-0 victory.

The fourth year boys, who also won their division in the summer, followed in the girls’ footsteps a day later.

First up they faced Poulton-Le-Fylde based Baines School and it was a closely fought affair with the encounter being decided in our boys’ favour in a tie break.

Ripon Grammar School were the opponents in the final. Having already tasted victory Liam Campbell, Toby Jones, Harry Hallisey and Fraser Curran had the appetite for more and won the match 8-4 to be crowned regional winners.
