The school’s football players are looking forward to getting the season underway and they already have reason to cheer after three of them were selected for Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) squads.
Fifth year pupil Max Keigher has been chosen to be part of the full under 16 ISFA squad and before Christmas he took part in a two-day camp at St George’s Park – the home of England’s 24 national teams. During the camp, Max’s ISFA team beat Notts County 6-3 and Chesterfield 3-1 and over the next few months they face the youth teams from a number of other league clubs as well as going on a tour to Berlin..
Second year pupils Sam Carr and Daniel Billington-Boateng are also celebrating call-ups after being selected to join the ISFA’s North-West under 13 squad for the forthcoming season.
In school football, the boys kicked off their season with a friendly against an Old Stops’ team before facing a host of local teams in the coming months, including Oldham Hulme Grammar, St Bede’s, The Grange, Cheadle Hulme and Manchester Grammar.
“The boys have a packed schedule of games coming up this year and they can’t wait to get started,” said head of football Mr Rob Bowden. Regarding the ISFA call-ups, Mr Bowden commented: “The under 13 lads will be tested against some excellent academy sides before their national tournament, whilst Max’s ‘international get together’ at St George’s Park was a great experience for him.”
