Pupils hit the high notes with their musical achievements

A number of talented pupils have been invited to perform with prestigious national institutions.

Fifth Year Pippa Brown and Fourth Year Natalie Bennett have been selected for the Hallé Youth Choir and Sixth Former Head Boy Sam Howard has been chosen to play the double bass with the Hallé Youth Orchestra.

Musical sisters Talia and Clara Zelhof successfully auditioned for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, Second Year Talia on the oboe and Year Four pupil Clara on the violin. Both girls have also been asked to join the Northerlies Regional Orchestra.

Congratulations also go to Fourth Year Joshua Furtado-Mendes, who has achieved distinctions in the Grade 8 examinations for violin, singing and theory. Sixth Former Elsa Shah gained distinctions in the Grade 8 examinations for organ and violin and Fourth Year George Zelhof has been awarded distinction in the Grade 8 examination for piano.

Concerts and recitals are held each term, giving musicians the opportunity to sing and play their instruments in front of fellow pupils, parents and staff.

Every First Year pupil receives tuition from specialist teachers on a number of string, woodwind and brass instruments before deciding if they would like to continue learning an instrument as they progress through the school.

There are also a vast number of choirs, bands and musical groups that they can join to further their interest in the subject. Junior School pupils can enjoy instrumental taster sessions as well as their own choirs and orchestra to start their musical journey as early as possible.
