Upper Sixth rugby players Will Kay and Will Spendlove have been selected in The Lambs (Independent Schools RFC) National Under 18 squad for the 2018 season.
The team, which exists to create openings for boys to showcase their rugby skills at a representative level, will compete in nine fixtures, including games against three Premiership academies, as well as a tour of Croatia and Italy.
The two Wills, along with Pat Chatterton and Josh Doyle, attended a Regional Festival where the four regions – North, Midlands, South East and South West – met for a series of intra-regional fixtures to give the Lambs coaches a final chance to see the players in action before selecting the squad.
Commenting on the final selections, Lambs National Director Alex Laybourne said: “There was a fantastic standard on show and selection was inevitably very difficult. We have selected a squad of players that we believe can play ‘Fast and Free’ in a tough fixture programme both domestically and on tour.”
Talking about his selection, Will Kay said: “It is a privilege to be selected as the squad includes players from all across England and the trials were tough and physical. I am really looking forward to the games, especially the tour to Croatia.”
Will Spendlove added: “It was a nice feeling to be selected and felt like our hard work was rewarded. Having fellow Stockport Grammar teammates at the trials and in the squad helped. There are a lot of exciting games coming up and I have an eye on the Nottingham University match as I know a few of their players.”
