Unfortunately we do not offer assistance with junior school and nursery fees.
Senior school and sixth form bursaries
Limited assistance with senior school and sixth form fees may be available to parents whose income is less than £59,950.
The level of assistance is based on the:
- child’s performance in the entrance exam
- amount of financial assistance required (based on an annual declaration of income and assets)
Assistance towards the cost of school uniform, meals and travel costs (for children who live more than three miles from the school) may also be available.
Parents whose income to 5th April 2017 is more than £59,950 will not qualify for assistance. Parents whose income is less than £27,000 may be offered full remission of fees.
Between these two figures there are a range of means-tested awards that will require some proportion of parental contribution.
Apply for a bursary
Please tick the appropriate box on the application form.
You will be sent a provisional declaration of income form immediately after the closing date for admission. The form will require:
- a declaration of your income for the year ending 5th April 2016
- an estimate of your income for the fiscal year 2016 to 2017
- details of savings and other assets as at 31st December 2016
The form must be returned by 31st January 2017.
Members of our senior management team make a selection of home visits to check and discuss the details of applications.
If you are selected for a home visit you will be contacted by the bursary’s secretary to arrange a suitable appointment.
Offer of a place
If your child is successful in the entrance examination, he/she will be offered a place, by letter.
The letter will inform you of the provisional level of bursary award (if you qualify on financial grounds) in terms of your contribution towards fees. You should then follow the instructions relating to your acceptance of that place.
The school has insufficient resources to satisfy the demand for assistance each year and unfortunately this means we cannot offer a bursary to every child for whom an application is made.
In May 2017 you will be asked to complete a final declaration of income form.
This form will require:
- your actual income for the year ending 5th April 2017
- confirmation of your capital assets as at 31st December 2016
You will also be asked for documentation to corroborate your income for the previous fiscal year.
We will confirm the amount of your own contribution towards fees (if any) during the course of the school summer holiday.
Length of bursary
Bursaries continue for every year in which your child remains at the school subject to the conditions of a bursary award.
We may ask you to pay a greater proportion of the fees if your income should rise, but there is no obligation on our part to increase the percentage should your income fall. In the latter situation each particular case will be judged on its merits.
Each summer you will be asked to complete a new declaration of income form and to provide details of your income for the previous fiscal year.

We offer a small number of scholarships each year based on outstanding performance in the entrance examination.
A Shaa scholarship gives a reduction of £1,000 on each full year’s fees and is held for the pupil’s first five years in the senior school, subject to an annual progress review.
Application and eligibility
You do not need to apply for a Shaa scholarship and they are not subject to a means test.
Offers of Shaa scholarships will be made in the letter sent to parents in March giving the outcome of the entrance examination.
The scholarships were introduced in 2012 to commemorate the 525th anniversary of the school’s foundation by Sir Edmund Shaa, Mayor of London and Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
- worth up to 25% of the school fees
Two music scholarships are available each year to cover up to 25% of the school fees.
Music scholarships are awarded after audition to prospective pupils who have already reached a high standard on one or more instrument and show outstanding musical potential.
