Junior School Admissions

The main intakes are at 3+, 4+ and at 7+. Our pupils come from a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Many children join our Nursery each year. Most children, but not all, who join one of the two Reception classes will have attended a nursery or playgroup. Children joining the Juniors come from both independent and maintained primary schools. Assessments for places at 4+ and Entrance Examinations for places at 7+ are held in January or February. Demand for places is high.

Invitation Morning

Parents looking for a place at 3 and 4 are invited, with their children, to an Invitation Morning when they have the chance to meet and talk to staff and the children can get used to the unfamiliar surroundings. Children are observed by teachers as they interact and carry out simple tasks that are appropriate for their ages and stage of development.

Assessment

Children applying for assessment at 7 are invited for a full day. They are given tests in English, reading, Mathematics and non-verbal reasoning and also have an opportunity to join in other activities. Lunch is provided. The day is organised to be as relaxed as possible. There are occasional vacancies in other years and pupils take up places following a successful assessment.

Applications forms and all correspondence concerning admissions should be sent to the Headmaster's Secretary, Mrs Beverley Cheyne. Applications for places in years other than the First Year may be considered.

Children with English as an additional language do not have separate work. Learning opportunities are provided which enable all pupils to make good progress. We strive hard to meet the needs of all pupils learning English as an additional language and take reasonable steps to achieve this.

Because your child's future is so important we want to help you with your choice as much as possible. Our Open Events are designed to show important aspects of school life and you are invited to attend one of these.
