Boys and girls at Stockport Grammar School are once again celebrating after another year of fantastic A Level results. Thirty eight students gained straight A grades and 82% of all grades awarded were A and B grades. All seven Oxbridge candidates (5 Oxford, 2 Cambridge) have fulfilled their ambitions and gained the grades they need to take up their places. Pupils attained a 100% pass rate.

Headmaster Andrew Chicken said, "We are very pleased that the students' hard work has been rewarded by such excellent results. The girls and boys have been overwhelmingly successful in meeting the requirements of their chosen universities. They leave us to embark on demanding courses at the top selective universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. We are delighted for the pupils, their families and their teachers."

Caroline Tanner was one of the pupils who gained straight As. Her 4 A grades in English, German, Mathematics and French, plus an Advanced Extension Award in French mean that she is now off to read Modern and Medieval Languages at Newnham College, Cambridge.

Whilst at Stockport Grammar School, Caroline spent a month in Canada attending the University of Laval after winning a language competition run by Quebec’s representative office in London. She also regularly took home prizes for her part in Modern Foreign Language Debating Competitions across the country and reached the finals of the Sir Rhys Davies Mock Trial Competition. Reflecting on her grades, Caroline said, "I’m ecstatic. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Stockport Grammar School and all the hard work was definitely worth it."

James Toole not only gained 4 A grades in Latin, English, German and History, but also Distinctions in Advanced Extension papers for English and Latin. James will be taking up his place to read English at Magdalen College, Oxford. After receiving his results, James said, "I’m shocked but delighted with my results and am now looking forward to the challenges of university."

Head Girl, Lucy Worthington, gained 3 A grades in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology and is now off to Bristol to study Veterinary Medicine. Whilst at Stockport Grammar School Lucy attained her Gold Level Duke of Edinburgh Award which was presented to her at St. James’s Palace by The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward. Lucy also won the School’s Albert Johnston Travel Award and spent ten days working on a horse ranch in Idaho, North America. On receiving her grades, Lucy said; "I feel lost for words, but I’m really pleased at getting my results. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Stockport Grammar School."

Jake Barlow gained 4 A grades in Latin, Music, Classics and Philosophy and is going to read Classics at Worcester College, Oxford. Jake is a talented musician and actor and took the role of Javert in the school’s most recent production; Les Misérables, and directed the Lower Sixth Form play. Along with his straight As, Jake has also gained a Choral Scholarship.

Cherry Chang, a talented pianist, gained 4 A grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology. Cherry has chosen to do her Dentistry course at Manchester University as they will let her have a piano in her hall of residence to practice on! On leaving Stockport Grammar School, Cherry said, "It’s been the best time of my life, I don’t want to leave."

Imrana Ishaque gained 3 A grades in Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology and is now going to Manchester to read Dentistry. Imrana, who came to collect her results with her mum, only joined Stockport Grammar School in the Lower Sixth Form and said, "I’m really shocked and happy. I couldn’t sleep last night.
