525th anniversary

525th anniversary crest

2012 represents an important milestone in the life of Stockport Grammar School, as we celebrate 525 years since the school’s foundation by Sir Edmond Shaa, mayor of London and prime warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company.

Many generations have benefited from his vision of a school that would nurture intellect, foster character and provide opportunity for the children of Stockport.

A series of activities are planned to celebrate the 525th year:

25th February – 525 gala concert in collaboration with Chorale and Cheshire Sinfonia at the Royal Northern College of Music
14th to 17th March – Oliver! in the main hall (preceded by sponsored receptions)
22nd March – Shaa lunch for legators and donors
23rd March – Founder’s day
2nd May – 525th anniversary reception at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London
4th May – Oxbridge dinner at Hertford College, Oxford
28th June – Speech day
8th September – Local history day – open house for guided tours
Date to be confirmed – Official opening of the new Woodsmoor building

More details about these events can be found on our events page.

This special year is also being marked with a fundraising initiative in support of our continuing bursary campaign to help bright children from all backgrounds fulfil their potential.

In celebration of the anniversary, mounted limited edition prints of Main Quad and View from the Sports Field by the distinguished artist Clifford Bayly, RWS have been made available with profits to the bursary campaign. For more details and to view and order prints, click here.
