Success for Stockport Grammar pupils at Model United Nations conference

MUN team at Cheadle Hulme

The effect of climate change on the global economy, human rights in Guantánamo Bay, settlement in the West Bank and the rights of prisoners were just some of the topics debated by 27 of our fifth year and sixth form at their latest Model United Nations conference.

An academic simulation of the United Nations, pupils spent weeks researching a nation before taking on roles as that country’s diplomats and debating and developing solutions to world problems at the conference, held at Cheadle Hulme.

Stockport Grammar School was represented by delegations from Nigeria, Syria and, with commendation for their performance, Iraq, while seven of our pupils also received individual commendations.

Earlier this year, Stockport Grammar School played host to its own highly successful MUN conference, attracting young people from as far as away as Cyprus.
