St George’s church was beautifully lit with candles as pupils, parents, staff, governors and Old Stopfordians gathered for the Senior School carol service.
The service began with a solo performance of the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City by third year pupil Jennifer Kent. The congregation enjoyed performances from the chorus, the chamber choir and the junior singers.
Readings were given by pupils from different year groups, including Jack MacLaren and Laura Potter, the head boy and girl and by Headmaster Mr Andrew Chicken. The programme cover was this year illustrated by fourth year pupil Lucy Pilling.
The week before, Junior School pupils, parents and staff filled St George’s church, where they enjoyed performances from years three to six and the orchestra. The congregation joined the children in singing hymns, interspersed with carols and hymns performed by the vocalists and year groups.
Readings were given by the head girl Hannah Hartas-Pearson and head boy Ben Jones. Headmaster Mr Larry Fairclough gave a reading, as did Hannah’s mother Mrs Janet Hartas, as well as Mr Phillip Cuddy, vice-chairman of governors, and Director of Studies Mrs Karen Horrocks.
