Maths Challenge is number one for Year 5 competitors

Over 150 children from 24 visiting schools took part in the annual Year 5 Maths Challenge in the Hallam Hall.

The event sees teams from across Greater Manchester compete in three energetic mathematical rounds including a pair’s relay and a team relay.

In the morning session Park Road Primary School came out on top as they saw off the determined challenge of Loreto Preparatory School and Great Moor Junior School. In the afternoon session Altrincham Preparatory School Team 1 outpointed Altrincham Preparatory School Team 2 and Prospect Vale Primary School to finish as winners.

Head of Maths Mr Frankland was impressed with the high calibre of entries and the enthusiasm shown by the children. “Our junior school competition continues to be very popular and it was great to see so many children using maths to solve problems. The support from schools, parents and teachers was very much appreciated and we look forward to holding the event again next year.”

The schools that took park in the Maths Challenge throughout the day were Acacias CP Primary, Altrincham Prep, Arden Primary, Armitage CE Primary, Banks Lane, Brabyns Prep, Broad Oak Primary, Broadstone Hall Primary, Chorlton Park Primary, Corrie Primary, Great Moor Juniors, Greenbank Prep, Loreto Prep, Mellor Primary School, Park Road, Prospect Vale Primary, Rose Hill Primary, St Ambrose Prep, St Peter’s (Hazel Grove), St Thomas’ CE Primary, The Ryleys, Tithe Barn Primary, Torkington Primary and Vernon Park Primary.
