Pupils from both the Senior and Junior School attended an exciting ‘The Read 2018’ awards ceremony full of inspirational presentations including a Samurai display and Ninja tests.
As part of the competition pupils read a wide variety of books and voted for their favourite to win an award in either the ‘Quick Reads’ or ‘The Big 5’ category.
The event was hosted by Chris Bradford, last year’s Quick Reads winner, who delivered a piece based around his ‘Young Samurai’ series while in Samurai dress and demonstrating the use of his Samurai sword to the enthralled audience. He also got pupils to take part in ‘Ninja tests’.
Author Mary Hooper, winner of the ‘Quick Reads’ category for her book ‘Ring Of Roses’, and ‘The Big 5’ victor and ‘What Not To Do If You Turn Invisible’ writer Ross Welford were also in attendance.
Pupils Katherine Alexander and Kai Spooner closed the ceremony by thanking the authors for coming and the organisers for putting together a fantastic event.
Year Six pupil Ahmar Malik said: “I really enjoyed myself, it was a new and fun experience meeting the authors, who were all nice and kind,” whilst Raed Uddin added: “It was an exciting experience meeting real authors of books I’ve read.”
Jack Delaney said: ““It was cool to see a Samurai Warrior in action” while Will Daniels described Christopher Bradford’s Samurai display as “jaw dropping.”
