Stockport Grammar School provides exceptional sporting opportunities for every child. We offer a diverse and inclusive programme of activities in which every pupil participates, through our curriculum and extensive co-curricular programme.
In addition to being inclusive, we aspire to the highest level of elite performance in our major games: our teams achieve national success and many of our pupils attain representative honours, including international selection.
In 2018 England Under 21 Hockey international Holly Hunt (OS 2015) impressed selectors and she has now been asked to join the Senior Women’s Great Britain squad.
Lauren Hunt (OS 2017) was part of the England Under 18 Hockey team which secured third place at the European Youth Under 18 Championships in the summer of 2016.
Lauren’s impressive display resulted in her being selected for England’s Under 21 squad/Development Programme and she faced USA’s Under 21s in a number of matches where she played alongside her sister Holly.
Lily Wolstenholme was part of the England Under 18 Hockey team which secured third place at the European Youth Under 18 Championships in the summer of 2016.
Lily, who scored the winning “shuffle” to secure the bronze medal, was also selected to receive a £1,000 SportsAid Award from MyLotto24 after being nominated by England Hockey.
Former Head Boy George Chatterton (OS 2017) signed a contract for England Rugby and has played in their Sevens squad for the 2017-18 season taking part in competitions such as the Hong Kong Sevens tournament.
James Gilboy (OS 2015) was selected for England Under 16s after impressing the selectors whilst playing for Cheshire and the North. He took part in a training camp and was chosen for the squad for their games against Italy Under 17s and Wales Under 16s.
Former Head Boy Tom Morton’s (OS 2014) outstanding performances for the North Under 18s saw him being picked for the England Under 18 clubs and schools squad. He represented his country during training weekends and in a match against Ireland.
David Paterson was selected for the Great Britain team for the Junior/Under 23 World Championship and the Junior/Under 23 European Championship in the summer of 2017.
He attended domestic and international training camps, took part in preparation races and spent time in the Team GB environment.
He raced hard against the best junior athletes in Europe and the world and finished with impressive placings in the Men’s K1 events.
Milly Cowell was picked for the England team and the Great Britain development squad and, in April 2016, was ranked third in Great Britain’s Under 14 category in both the Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom.
