Anticipation is growing after the Under 13 netball team reached the final of the Independent Schools Netball Cup following an impressive series of results during their cup run. The girls are aiming to defend the title that the school won last year.
The campaign got underway on 25th September as the girls travelled to Wellington in Shropshire to face Wrekin College. A strong display saw them return to Cheshire with a 57-10 victory and set the team off on the right foot.
In round two the Under 13s had a home tie against Sedbergh School. With a fervent crowd behind them, the team put in a commanding display to see off the opposition with a comprehensive 57-3 victory.
Surrey’s Guildford High School were next up for the team as the competition reached the quarter final stage. The margin in this tie was closer but the girls kept their composure to secure a semi-final place with a 44-17 win.
Berkhamsted School, based in Hertfordshire, were drawn as the school’s opposition in the final four and it promised to be a competitive tie with a place in the final at stake. Again the crowd were positive and vocal as they cheered the girls on and this resulted in a clinical display from the players as they secured a 38-16 victory.
Stockport Grammar now travel to Hertfordshire University on 8th March where they will compete for the Under 13 crown during Finals day.
Mrs Laura Goddard, Head of Netball and Girls PE, said:
“The U13 team deserve this success. They have worked hard all season and are thrilled to be in the final. It is a fantastic achievement for the school to reach the Smile ISNC final in two consecutive years. ”
