Our Senior School Under 14 and Junior School Under 11 football teams had a great time taking to the field and enjoying the scenery on their respective tours to Barcelona and Lytham.

Our Under 14 footballers visited the North-Eastern Spanish city of Barcelona on a fun-packed tour towards the end of the Spring term.

After landing and checking in, the boys took little time in getting down to business as they headed to the home of FC Barcelona, the immense Camp Nou, where the group watched the Catalan derby as the hosts defeated RCD Espanyol.

The following day the boys were split into two squads and their first games of the trip saw them face Peña Barcelonista Barcino. The A team drew 1-1 with Harry Williams netting in an exciting and enjoyable match against the local side whilst the B team also competed well despite losing to a group of very talented footballers.

The footballers enjoyed some down time on the beach in Calella before heading to a valuable and informative training session with RCD Espanyol.

The next matches of the tour saw the pupils face Club de Futbol Parets with Oscar Fahy’s superbly struck left footed goal and Will Bevan’s inspiring and rousing team talk delighting the travelling fans.

The final day of the trip allowed the boys to embark on a tour of Camp Nou where they found out more about the history of the club and the venue and took in the grandeur of the 99,354 capacity stadium.

Coach Miss Leanne Curl said “The trip was absolutely superb. The lads were a delight throughout the trip; they played some excellent football against strong opposition and very much enjoyed having the opportunity to play football in another country.”

Junior School Football Tour

Our Under 11 football players enjoyed a packed itinerary on their annual tour.

The A, B, C and D teams faced competitive games against Bolton School before making their way to Lytham. After a filling dinner, the boys and girls headed down to the beach and park and then returned to the hotel to watch the England game.

The next morning saw them travel to Stanley Park where they played a few games of football between themselves. The final stop of the tour was Edgeley Park where they watched Stockport County play in the semi-final of the FA Trophy. The youngsters enjoyed being in the Family Lounge and mingling with the players and management before buying some mementoes from the club shop.

James and Dominic

Well done to Second Year pupils James Carr and Dominic Hanson who were selected in the North West Independent Schools Football Association squad for the Regional Representative Festival which took place in Shrewsbury over the Easter break.

The three-day tournament saw the boys face opposition from eight different regions and the games produced some excellent football between the youngsters.
