Alan Peter Smith (OS 1987, Former Member of Staff)
The School was saddened to hear of the death of Mr Smith on 18th May 2015 at Stepping Hill Hospital following a short illness. He was 88.
Appointed by F H Philpott in 1950 to teach German, Alan spent his whole career from then on at Stockport, retiring in 1987. He and his head of department, Wolfgang Herman, formed a splendid complementary team for thirty years before he took over the departmental reins.
Both of Alan’s sons, Richard Smith (OS 1971) and David Smith (OS 1973), attended Stockport Grammar School.
