Leslie J Goodwin (OS 1945)
Stockport Grammar School was saddened to hear that Mr Leslie J Goodwin sadly passed away on 8 Dec 2017, aged 90, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He attended Stockport Grammar school during the late 1930s and early 1940s.
The family of Leslie J Goodwin have shared the following statement:
“Leslie passed away peacefully on 8 Dec 2017 age 90, leaving his wife of 63 years Brenda, 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
Leslie gained a scholarship to Stockport Grammar School in 1938, and went on to Manchester University to study French. He was an active member of the school cricket team, and was notable for his role as pianist with the school orchestra. In the 6th form he took part in fire watching duties at the school, patrolling the upper floors and roof for incendiary bombs with his lifelong friend Roy Standring.
Leslie moved to Buckinghamshire in 1969, and travelled the world during his business career as Overseas Marketing Director. A few years before retirement he established an ancestry research business.
Leslie continued to enjoy his passion for cricket, music, literature, history & stamp collecting well into retirement, and is fondly remembered for his engaging witty personality…..sadly missed.”
