  • Dr Jon Bell (OS 1997) honours father Colin Bell MBE

    In celebration of Manchester City Football Clubs Premier League win on Sunday Former Head Boy, Dr. Jon Bell (OS 1997), was honoured to carry the Premier League Trophy in memory of his father Colin Bell MBE, one of the finest Manchester City players of all time.

  • Old Stopfordian Clare Francis (OS 1994) is new President

    We are delighted to announce the appointment of Clare Francis (OS 1994) as Old Stopfordian President.  Clare’s term of office is from March 2021 until March 2023, and comes following the conclusion of Graham Earles’s (OS 1983) term as President on Founder’s Day, 19th March 2021.

  • Gratitude is the theme of Founder’s Day

    On the 19th March we celebrated 534 years since the foundation of Stockport Grammar School by Sir Edmond Shaa, Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and Mayor of London.  Pupils, staff and Old Stopfordians marked the occasion with a Virtual Founder’s Day Service directed by School Chaplain Reverend Leaver.

    Pupils and Old Stopfordians created a Virtual Christmas Celebration to mark the traditional Stockport Grammar School Carol Service, which is usually held at St. George’s Church each year.

    Head of Physical Education at The Harrodian School and Old Stopfordian, Alastair Lydon (OS 2000), has teamed up with Gabriel Jagger to interview some of the most influential and award-winning names in education, rugby, theology and even zoology, to uncover some golden nuggets of wisdom via a new podcast series, Golden Nuggets​.

  • Virtual Careers Days

    Second and Third Year pupils have been participating in virtual careers days to explore a variety of career options and the necessary requirements to reach them.  Forty guest speakers, representing a wide range of industries, gave in-depth insights into their career paths with many Old Stopfordians presenting their journey after leaving SGS.

  • Old Stopfordian Professor Sir Anthony Cheetham FRS (OS 1965) awarded Knighthood

    Old Stopfordian Professor Sir Anthony Cheetham FRS (OS 1965) has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List 2020 for services to materials chemistry, UK science and global outreach.  His area of research is inorganic and hybrid materials and involves their synthesis, characterisation and applications.

    Former Stockport Grammar pupil, Jess Piasecki née Coulson (OS 2008), has become the third fastest female in British marathon history after winning the Florence Marathon in 2:25:29.   • Old Stopfordians’ Golf Society review of the 2019 season

    The Society had an enjoyable season with good weather for all the competitions. The Society has about 41 members on the circulation list but only 19 have played in at least one event this year.

    Prima Facie has released a new collection of works performed by Old Stopfordian John Turner (recorder) and The Manchester Sinfonia.  All tracks were recorded at St. Thomas’ Church Stockport.
