    Injuries and half-term holidays reduced Stops to 10 men against a full-strength young Brooklands team, many of whom had played in the premiership last season.

    Staff and former pupils who were at Stockport Grammar during the 1980s returned to the school on a recent Saturday afternoon for a reunion barbecue.

    This game looked as it might throw in a surprisingly good result as Stops matched Poynton in all departments for the first 30 minutes.

    The opening game of the season brought three new faces into the Stops’ team – David Merriman, Josh Findlay and James Allen. All acquitted themselves well, but this is a higher standard than they will have played previously and time will tell how they adapt at this level.

  • Helen Gemmell to run New York City marathon

    Old Stopfordian Helen Gemmell (OS 2004) will be running the New York City marathon in November in aid of charity Get Kids Going, who give disabled children and young people the opportunity of participating in sport.
