A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mary Poppins set to wow
After an exciting and action-packed start to the Autumn and Spring terms, pupils are hard at work preparing for the next spectacular school productions – ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in the Senior School, ‘Mary Poppins’ in the Junior School and the long-awaited Spring Concert, hosted at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Pupils from all years have been showing off their dancing, singing and acting skills throughout the year in productions such as SGS Loves Dance, Andromache and orchestral and choral performances in the Autumn, Christmas and Winter Concerts.
SGS Loves Dance
In November SGS Loves Dance stunned a packed audience, with mesmerising performances including tap, hip-hop and contemporary dance styles. Set pieces included songs such as ‘Feel it Still’, ‘Say Something’, ‘On Top Of The World’ and ‘Scars To Your Beautiful’.
Musicians and singers from all age groups and levels of experience have provided endless entertainment to pupils and the public throughout the year. Over 160 pupils across 10 ensembles took part in this year’s Autumn Concert, the curtain raiser for a season of large scale events in the Music department.
Next up was the Christmas concert featuring classic Christmas favourites such as ‘The Nutcracker’ ‘Can’t Help Lovin Dat Man’, ‘Mister Sandman’, ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ and ‘Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer’.
St George’s Church was the venue for both the Junior and Senior carol concerts over Christmas, with hearts warmed by the festivities, classic Christmas carols and mince pies.
More recently, ‘Andromache’ a Greek tragedy by Euripides, was hailed as a huge success by impressed audiences.
The play told the story of the aftermath of the Trojan War – a tale of anger, jealousy and isolation between Andromache and Hermione.
