Charlie Speight features on BBC One Remembrance Week programme
Former chairman of governors Charlie Speight (OS 1944) featured on an episode of BBC One’s Remembrance Week programme last week.
Hosted by Gethin Jones, the programme honoured those who have fought in Afghanistan and reflected on all the other servicemen and women who have taken part in past conflicts around the world.
In a fascinating segment, Charlie spoke at length about the day in 1948 when, while serving in Palestine, the train he was travelling on was blown up, and how he escaped.
The programme (episode four) is available to watch again on the BBC iPlayer until Friday 18th November. Charlie’s piece begins around 29 minutes into the programme and lasts for about eight minutes.
Charlie was one of nearly 100 Old Stopfordians who joined pupils, staff and governors at Stockport Grammar School on Armistice Day to remember those members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.
