Football success stories
Two pupils have been chosen to join Independent Schools Football Association squads.
Fifth Year pupil Will Callan has been selected to join the National ISFA U-16 squad.
The talented footballer was picked following a North v South selection match and was invited to attend a special training camp at St George’s Park last month.
Second Year pupil Tom McDonald has also been picked to join the ISFA North West squad. He will play a host of matches at a training camp in Shrewsbury later this year.
Football teacher Mr Bowden said: “The boys have done really well to get picked for the ISFA and proved that hard work and dedication pays off. Will can look forward to playing teams from schools around the world and this is the first time Stockport Grammar has had someone picked for the ISFA national squad. Tom has done really well to be invited to join the North West squad and he’ll really enjoy the experience.”
The ISFA is affiliated to The Football Association and is responsible for developing and promoting football in the independent sector.
ISFA runs national competitions and runs representative teams aimed at giving boys and girls the opportunity to play at the highest possible level
With the increasing popularity of the game throughout the country, the amount of football being played in independent schools has increased dramatically over the last 10 years.
ISFA aims to nurture this desire to play the game and ensure that the Corinthian values the game was founded on are still followed in the 21st century.
