Juniors marvel at Music Festival
A packed Main Hall witnessed Junior School musicians perform a wonderful selection of pieces from a range of genres.
Sam H and Clara Z expertly opened proceedings with their violins with a movement from one of Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’.
A large ukulele group played ‘Lava’ from the Disney short film of the same name, whilst the drum group played a brilliant piece showcasing the many sound techniques that can be produced on the instrument.
The orchestra also performed three songs – the ‘Charleston Rag’, ‘Breezy’ and ‘O Solo Mio’.
Away from the instruments, the school’s superb singers hit the right note with their pieces.
Year Three and Four singers performed Suzy Davies’ ‘Build It Up’ and two songs from the Jonah Man Jazz Lyric Sheet – ‘I Need A Boat, Man’ and ‘When Jonah Sank Into The Sea’.
Emily R, Erin R, Molly M, Maya G and Chloe H – who have singing lessons both in and out of school – sang a selection of solos, including numbers from ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Mamma Mia’.
The Junior Choir also impressed as they sang the classic ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ and ‘Do-Re-Mi’ from The Sound of Music.
Mrs Ruth Cole, the Junior School’s Head of Music, said: “It was great to see so many people attend our Music Festival. The girls and boys have been working hard and I am delighted with how they performed. They should be really proud of themselves and we look forward to seeing them develop their musical ability in the years ahead.”
