Juniors relish their time on residentials
Residentials are a great way for pupils to build relationships with others in their year group and to develop new skills. In the summer term, Years 3, 5 and 6 enjoyed their fun-filled trips.
Year 3
The Year 3 residential to Tattenhall was a great success. The weather was kind and the children took part in a range of activities including orienteering, pond dipping, teambuilding, rope knotting and campfire challenges. These tasks tested their teamworking and communication skills.
The boys and girls toasted marshmallows, baked bread, traversed the climbing wall and performed an array of traditional and more modern songs.
The children also balanced on the trim trail, constructed hammocks, and took part in a trust game where one pupil was blindfolded and their partner had to led them between dangling rubber snakes.
Year 5
The sun shone on Year 5 children as they headed to The Hollowford Centre in Castleton for their residential.
Based in the heart of the Peak District, the pupils were able to take part in exciting activities such as rock climbing, caving, raft-building and even zip-wiring!
The girls and boys made the most of being outside and returned home happy with lots of lasting memories, full of fun and enjoyment.
Year 6
Castleton again was the location as Year 6 children spent three fabulous nights enjoying themselves.
Y6N pupils Cara, Norah-Lil, Jess and Sian said: “We enjoyed lots of activities. These included an egg rocket competition, campfire senses, archery, weaselling, canoeing, team challenges, siege engines (catapults) and a hike.
“We were all put into small teams to make egg rockets where you could score points in many categories. The winners of the competition were Sunny Side Up. We went on a seven-mile hike on Mam Tour. It was extremely tiring but was worth it when we got to the top. The instructors said we were one of the quickest schools! Everyone loved the trip!”
Harry, Oliver, Frank, Euan, Charlotte, Lucy, Ellenor and Eleanor from Y6B added: “We all enjoyed our trip to Castleton. From canoeing to weaselling, and an amazing walk up Mam Tour. The food was also brilliant and there was something for everyone. They also had a brilliant field for us to play on after we had completed the activities and in the evenings.”
