Liverpool 4-21 Stopfordians
Following a minute’s silence in memory of Colin Hibbert, Stops began the first quarter with a steady performance that took them into a 3-0 lead.
Liverpool had some competent fast individuals but rarely finished what could have been promising moves. Consequently Stops took control in the second quarter, securing a 10-0 lead by half-time.
The third quarter was a different story as Liverpool grabbed the first goal and matched Stops, bringing the scoreline to 13-3 by the end of the period.
But in the last quarter Stops got back into gear and added eight more to their total. Most of Stops’ goals were well worked team efforts.
For the record scorers were, Chris Sullivan (6), Paul Bowden (4), Neil Catto (4), Peter Woodhead (4) and Andrew Withington (3).
Defensively, Stops were sound, but if Liverpool had been more accurate with their finishing the result might have been closer.
Having secured their first points of the season, Stops can now aim for further positive results. The next game in two weeks’ time is against Mellor, which will be one of the toughest games of the year, but there are fixtures later in the season from which points should be won.
