National Quarter Finals for rugby and hockey
Congratulations to both the Under 15 rugby and hockey teams for reaching the Quarter Final stage of national competitions.
The U15 rugby players battled the elements, as well as a strong Queen Elizabeth Grammar School side, in the North ‘A’ Final of the National Cup.
A gritty and dedicated performance saw the boys earn a 26-15 victory and secure their place in the Quarter Finals – making them one of the best eight schools in the country at this age group.
In the Quarter Finals they will host Stowe School.
The U15 hockey girls are through to the Quarter Finals of the Independent National Plate after seeing off Stonyhurst College in a hard-fought Round Two tie.
With the game finishing 1-1 in normal time after captain Amy Jack levelled the match, the game needed to be decided by penalty shuffles – a one-on-one from the 25m line where the attacker has eight seconds to score past the keeper.
The girls held their nerve and, with keeper Lucy Stead in inspired form, they won the penalty shuffles by three goals to two, resulting in a final score line of 4-3.
In the Quarter Finals they face an away tie to Rossall School, The Grammar School at Leeds or Wakefield Girls’ High School.
