Sale Sharks training visit and selection success
Congratulations to the rugby players who have been selected for the Sale Sharks England Rugby Developing Player Programme (DPP). The announcement follows on from a very productive visit from professional player Johnny Leota.
Harry Reeder-Hirst has been selected for the U16 programme whilst Dominic Hanson, Raees Latif and Elliot Mills have been selected for the U14s.
For the U15: DPP Rowan Abbott, Albert Bradshaw, Frank Chatterton, Isaac Deans, Edward Hukin, Thomas Loveday, William AK Morris, Navid Mousavi Khoshrou, Dominic Rode and Eddie McDonald have been selected.
The DPP is a joint initiative between Sale Sharks, the RFU and the Constituent Bodies. It is designed to provide enhanced development opportunities for the best young players in the North West and ‘a first opportunity to identify players with the greatest potential to enter the pathway towards the professional game.’
Head of Rugby Mr Corbett said: “The school is extremely proud of the grit and enthusiasm that the boys have shown to gain their selection. A number of other pupils narrowly missed out and the opportunity is still there for them to gain selection at a later date.”
Johnny Leota visit
During his time at the school he ran a conditioned game focussing on a skill, assisted with the running of a game and worked with our players on catching, passing and staying square.
Despite a slight drizzle, First Years enjoyed listening to Johnny as he joined them for their Games lesson.
At lunchtime, Johnny moved inside to the Sports Hall where he put some of the older rugby players through their paces.
It was an invaluable experience for the players involved and an extremely useful step in their development.
Many thanks to the Sharks Community Trust, Sale Sharks’ charitable arm, for organising the visit.
