Sporting trio celebrate medal success at County Championships
A trio of young sporting stars from the Junior School have been celebrating their success after scooping up a host of medals at a range of County Championship competitions.
Year Six pupil, Arthur W, represented Stockport Metro Swimming Squad in the Cheshire County Swimming Championships.
His hard work and training certainly paid off at the championships where he won three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke races as well as two silvers in the 100m and 200m Individual Medleys.
Meanwhile, Year Six cross country runners Molly M and Lucy J have been representing Stockport at the Greater Manchester Schools Cross County Championships.
The talented runners did extremely well at the high level competition with Molly M taking third place in the U11 category and Lucy J coming in at fourth place. The pair were also part of the team who took first place overall at the championships.
Molly M said: “I was really pleased to take third place in the U11 category of the cross country competition and for the team to be overall winner. I originally began running through athletics but now I really enjoy running.
“Doing Park Runs has helped build up my confidence to take on these bigger challenges and I can’t wait for my next race.”
Lucy J commented: “It felt amazing to do so well. My mum is very good at running and she’s inspired me to do cross country. I’m very competitive and it’s great to be part of a team.”
SGJS PE and Games teacher, Mr Martin Cooke said: “We are very proud of Arthur, Molly and Lucy not only for their performances but also for the resilience and grit that they show in their training and commitment to sport. I hope their performances inspire more pupils to take on active challenges away from the school environment.”
SGJS Headmaster and keen marathon runner, Tim Wheeler added: “I am most impressed with the standard they have achieved alongside the many other commitments of school life.”
