Strong start to the season for netballers

Girls in both the Senior and Junior Schools have fantastic netball coaching and facilities available on site.

We have indoor courts with a digital scoreboard and viewing area in the Sports Hall as well as the outdoor blue asphalt courts situated just in front of the Languages building.

Under the leadership of our experienced coaches, our teams have achieved impressive success in a number of competitions, including the Independent Schools Netball Cup.

Although the season has just begun our netballers already have reasons to celebrate.

The season so far

Girls from Year Five in the Junior school to Upper Sixth in the Senior School have taken part in matches and competitions against schools both locally and nationally.

In the Junior School, the U11As have won two of their three games and the U11B are unbeaten after the same amount of games.

Both the U10 teams have won all of their games.

The U18A team have played in seven games so far this year with wins against Bradford Grammar School (twice), Birkenhead School and Alderley Edge School for Girls being the highlights. The U18Bs have also competed in two matches.

A 27-23 Sisters n Sport National Cup (Area Cup – Round One) victory over St Bede’s College has been the standout result of the U16As season whilst the U15A team can look back with pride on a 55-39 win over Bradford Grammar School in Round Two of the national competition.

The U14As have won three of their five games whilst the U14Bs have lost just one of their four matches. The U13A and B teams are putting in better performances after a slow start to the season whilst the U12A and B teams boast 100% records after winning all of their games so far.

The strong start to the season is reward for the players’ hard work, which started with pre-season training during the last week of the summer break.

You can keep up-to-date with the progress of all of the teams by visiting the dedicated Netball page on the school’s website.

Senior School selection success

Fourth Year pupils Eloisa Burton and Chloe Olajide and Third Years Libby Goodman and Holly Williams have been chosen for the Greater Manchester County Under 15 squad for the 2019-2020 season whilst Fifth Year player Libby Wolstenholme has been selected for the Manchester Thunder Under 17 squad for the upcoming season after successfully coming through trials.

These achievements are even more remarkable as both of the Libbys and Holly are a year younger than the age group they are representing!

TV stars

A number of our talented players featured in an advert for Sky Sports Netball in the run up to the British Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship.

The competition featured the Superleague teams of Manchester Thunder, Wasps Netball, Severn Stars, Loughborough Lightning, Team Bath, Celtic Dragons, Surrey Storm and Saracens Mavericks and took place in 2012 Olympics venue the Copper Box Arena in October.

Tournament winners

The Under 15 team made the very short journey to Stockport School to take part in in the Stockport Schools Tournament.

The girls made it through to the final unbeaten where they faced Cheadle Hulme School. A strong and energetic performance saw them emerge victorious by a score of 12-6.
