Nursery

2020-2021 Nursery class

Exceptional Nursery education

Our Nursery class provides education in a caring, happy and inviting atmosphere. In Spring 2021, the new purpose built Nursery building opened in the grounds of the Junior School, complete with exciting new play areas and an eco-friendly living green roof.

The children’s education is overseen by qualified and experienced teachers and Nursery assistants, who work with the children to encourage them to explore, discover and learn.

The busy, exciting and varied programme also includes specialist Music, Modern Foreign Languages, Dance and PE sessions, along with weekly swimming lessons in the school pool, again taken by specialist teachers.

Our staff enjoy positive relationships with both children and parents as we work together to ensure that we deliver the best possible care and education. We will encourage a close liaison between you and staff as this is essential to creating a happy and secure environment. Parents are always welcome to come and see us and there are plenty of opportunities to be involved in Nursery activities and to come and see the children in action.

Contact the Head’s PA Andrea Mariet on marieta@stockportgrammar.co.uk or 0161 419 2405 to make an appointment to be shown around our school.

Nursery Life

Through a variety of fun daily activities, we develop the whole child; their personal and social skills, early language and mathematical understanding, their awareness of the world around them and their physical and creative skills. Our generous ratios ensure that we can focus on individuals and our Learning Development Co-ordinator and the School Nurses are also on hand to provide support and continuity of care for the children.

We build confidence and self-esteem within a secure and stimulating environment, through both structured activities and purposeful play. We use our local environment to enrich Nursery activities and our children develop an understanding of the wider world, working and playing within the security of the extensive school grounds and play spaces, visiting the school library and making use of the sports hall and swimming pool.

Lunch is prepared onsite by our catering team and the children sit at tables with staff for a ‘family-style’ dining experience where we can develop healthy eating habits and good table manners and encourage the children to help with serving, sharing and clearing away. Milk and fruit are provided in the morning and fruit juice and a biscuit in the afternoon.

First Steps on the Learning Journey

Our Nursery class helps the children settle into school life, providing them with diverse and exciting experiences to enhance their all-round physical, intellectual, social and emotional development.

Reception staff work closely with the Nursery team to monitor each child’s progress and they plan carefully together to ensure a smooth transition into Reception and beyond as the children take their next steps on their learning journey.

The children quickly get to know key members of staff, regularly attending Infant assemblies and spending time with the Reception children and in the Reception classrooms. The simple school uniform also helps the children to feel that they are part of our school.

Nursery building

Above all, it is important to us that children are happy and want to come into Nursery. We invite you to come and see us at work and at play and discover why our Nursery offers your child the best start towards independent learning.
