Major Christopher H. Walton MBE (OS 1949)
Stockport Grammar School has been informed of the death of Christopher Walton MBE, who died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 90.
Christopher attended Stockport Grammar School between (1939-1949), and maintained strong connections to Stockport Grammar School throughout his life.
He was awarded an MBE for his work with the Historic Churches Trust 2011.
Former Director of Music, Mr Jackson Towers recalls:
“I got to know Christopher and his wife Judith when we took the choir to the USA for our first tour there in 1979. He was a senior official at the World Bank and he arranged homestays and concerts in the Potomac Maryland area and tours of Washington DC including a personal guided tour of Congress by a US senator.
He was still very proud of his connections to the school. He later returned to the UK as Bursar and fellow of Wolfson College Oxford.”
