Care, Community and Character

A strong pastoral team, comprising Form Tutors, Heads of Year and Heads of Section, supported by school nurses, counsellors and Sixth Form mentors, ensures that the pupils feel confident and happy at school.

The Form Tutors are the first point of contact for parents and oversee the welfare, academic progress and extra-curricular involvement of each pupil.

Stockport Grammar School is a strong, vibrant and happy community. Assemblies, house events and a huge range of activities allow pupils to work together and feel that they belong at SGS. There are many opportunities for pupils to develop leadership skills and make a positive contribution to the lives of others.

The school is rooted in Stockport and we have extensive links with the local community as well as partnerships with charitable endeavours further afield. SGS raises money for EducAid which provides education and teacher training in Sierra Leone.

SGS seeks to develop the character strengths of the pupils, recognising that school is a preparation for life and not just for university. Our Character Education programme provides opportunities for pupils to grow in enthusiasm, curiosity, grit, community ethos and social intelligence.
