Personal Development

Four students laughing together

Our students receive exceptional teaching, guidance, and support in small form groups of around 15 students.

We offer each student:

  • A New Dynamic – Trusted with leadership roles and privileges while fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Exceptional StandardsIn 2024, 71% of A Level results were A*, A, or B grades.
  • World Travel and Life Opportunities – Adventure and educational experiences in locations like Cambodia, France, Spain and the US. Sports, music, drama, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, Model United Nations, voluntary work, Young Enterprise, and the Albert Johnston Travel Award are all available.

Our Sixth Form balances freedom with strong support – fostering responsible, considerate, self-disciplined, reliable, and socially aware members of society.

A greater responsibility

The move from GCSE to A Level study requires students to take greater responsibility for their own learning. With our support, SGS students grow in confidence as they navigate this transition – ready for university life, the UCAS application system and the world of work.

Small tutor groups

Students meet every day with their Form tutors in small groups of around 15. Tutors are often from their A Level departments, so can quickly help with advice and support. Sixth Formers’ progress is regularly reviewed and assessed.

Feedback for parents

Half-termly Approach to Learning (ATL) grades, a full School Report, and a parents’ evening take place each year, plus an information evening early in the Lower Sixth. The Head of Sixth Form and Heads of Year closely monitor each student’s progress and welfare.
