Mr Geoffrey Ardern (OS 1962)

Stockport Grammar School was saddened to receive notice of the death of Old Stopfordian Mr Geoffrey Ardern (OS 1962) on Wednesday 4th January 2023. Mr Ardern had been ill for some time.

The School was notified by Mr John Ormiston (OS 1965), a lifelong friend of Mr Ardern.

Mr Arden attended Stockport Grammar School between 1957-1962 and was a keen member of the football team, as well as the youth and music clubs.

After leaving Stockport Grammar School, Mr Ardern attended Salford College of Technology to study electrical engineering and later secured positions with GCE in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. He later settled in the Halifax region.  A keen yachtsman, he was an active member of the Royal Nova Scott Yacht Squadron, carrying out rescues and missions as far away as Barbados.  Mr Ardern enjoyed many expeditions to the Atlantic as part of the Chester Race Week with his school friends, including Mr Ormiston. He also made sure to gather his friends and peers for reunions on regular visits to the UK.

Our thanks to John Ormiston (OS 1965) for sharing information about Geoffrey Ardern’s life.
