Creativity of artists celebrated in annual catalogue

A-level work from the 2023 Art Catalogue

Each year the Art department produce a captivating catalogue featuring the brilliant work of the year’s A-level and GCSE students.

The 2023 catalogue marks a fitting end to a sustained period of study for the pupils and it features a range of media and techniques including drypoint, lino prints, collagraphs, ceramics, 3D relief, monotypes and photography.

Reflecting on the achievements of the artists, the members of the department commented: “We want to congratulate students for their willingness to engage with the subject over the two years of the course and for their determination and good humour.

“Both courses offer pupils the opportunity to develop ideas and to explore media and techniques freely, safe in the knowledge that making mistakes and changing direction at a mid-point are part of the learning process and often lead to more accomplished resolved work.”

Head of Middle School Mrs Jude Fitzgerald said: “This year’s work is a richly vibrant and triumphant culmination of a journey involving hours spent filling up sketchbooks with observations, experiments and artist research. The variety here is astonishing.”

Head of Sixth Form Mr David Stone added: “It is marvellous and truly inspiring to have the chance to see and celebrate the wonderful range of creations that form this year’s body of work for GCSE and A-level assessment. I am sure that each contributor will value highly the opportunity to share their work with their friends, family and the wider school community.”
