Dance Show 2022: Hollywood comes to SGS

The cast of the 2022 Dance Show

The audiences at this year’s Dance Show were transported to Hollywood thanks to two wonderful productions of ‘A Night At The Movies’.

Sixty dancers took to the stage and performed amazing dances from musicals such as ‘Matilda’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘High School Musical 2’.

The show opened with a fast-paced dance from the wonderful SGS Dance Company who leaped around the stage to the ‘Jellicle Ball’ from the musical ‘Cats’.

Second Year boys wowed with an urban dance, which was inspired by the film ‘Mission Impossible’, and performers from Second Year Dance Club brought the energy with an awesome performance of ‘Revolting Children’ from Tim Minchin’s adaptation of ‘Matilda’.

Other songs covered in the first part included ‘The Poisoned’ from ‘Black Widow’, ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever?’ from ‘Beauty And The Beast’, ‘The Other Side’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘You Don’t Own Me’ inspired by DC Comics’ Harley Quinn, ‘Nuvole Bianche’ from ‘The Intouchables’ and ‘Hey Pachuco’ from ‘The Mask’.

The First Year Dance Club’s performance of ‘What Time Is It?’ from ‘High School Musical 2’ closed the first section.

Following the interval, the spectacle resumed with the Sixth Form Games Group’s routine to ‘All That Jazz’ from ‘Chicago’.

Performances from ‘Up’ (‘False Confidence’), ‘Annie’ (‘Opportunity’), ‘La La Land’ (‘City Of Stars’) and ‘A Fault In Our Stars’ (‘Skinny Love’) all impressed the crowd and the show concluded with rapturous applause following an ensemble performance of ‘Friend Like Me’ from Disney’s ‘Aladdin’.

SGS Dance Teacher Mrs Abigail Downing said: “After the challenges we have all faced over the last few years, it really was fantastic to finally get our pupils back on stage performing to a live audience.

“The pupils have worked so hard, demonstrating a real ‘can do’ attitude – as well as bags of energy and enthusiasm. It was a real joy for me to step back and watch their love of dance and performance shine bright.”
