MFL students at HOME on study workshops

Students outside HOME for a Spanish workshop

Modern Foreign Languages students visited HOME in Manchester to build upon the work they have been doing in class.

Fifth Year French pupils attended the arts centre, cinema and theatre complex to watch a film called ‘Le Havre’ by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki that deals with the topics of immigration and family.

After the film there was a workshop where pupils discussed – in French – the story of the film, its themes and structure and the techniques that were used.

Meanwhile, Upper Sixth linguists attended a Spanish A-level study day that included a screening of the film ‘La Novia’, a film adaptation of Federico García Lorca’s ‘Blood Wedding’.

The film was accompanied by a series of language exercises in Spanish including film analysis and discussion of the main themes in the film and its characters.

The trip was particularly useful for the students as they study ‘La Casa de Bernarda Alba’, another one of Lorca’s plays, as part of their A-Level course.
