Musical talent shines bright at Summer Concert

The String Quartet at the Summer Concert 2022

The school’s talented musicians continued to impress as they took to the stage for this year’s Summer Concert.

The Brass Ensemble opened the concert with excerpts from Georges Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ and concluded their set with the anthemic ‘One Day Like This’ by rock band Elbow.

String Quartet performed ‘Concerto in A Minor’ by Antonio Vivaldi and a new composition created entirely by Lower Sixth student Lily Amet. It was the first time Lily’s family had heard the piece and the audience really enjoyed her composition.

Second Orchestra gave lively renditions of ‘The Entertainer’ by Scott Joplin (arrangement by Thomas Ling) and ‘Valse’ from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet, ‘Swan Lake’.

After some refreshments, the Concert Band played Michael Giacchino’s ‘The Incredibles (Main Theme)’, as well as ‘Soul Bossa Nova’ by Quincy Jones (arrangement by Johnnie Vinson) and ‘Stay Cool’ by Vince Gassi.

Cello Choir delivered beautiful renditions of Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Sarabande’ and ‘Ave Verum’ by William Byrd whilst Big Band played toe-tapping renditions of The Blues Brothers’ ‘I Can’t Turn You Loose’, Michael Sweeney’s arrangement of ‘Blue Train’ and ‘Doxy’ by Sonny Rollins, arrangement by John Berry.

Our amazing musicians have the opportunity to perform once again at the Leaver’s Concert on 29th April.
