Sixth Formers celebrate University offer success

Following the recent ISI Inspection observation that “pupils are well prepared for life beyond school and for the next stage of their education”, it is no surprise that many of our Upper Sixth students have already received news of exciting future opportunities.

This includes Senior Prefect Tuguldur Zolzaya who has been offered a place to study Chemistry at Balliol College, Oxford. And, with support from the SGS Medical Society, future medics, vets and dentists have also been enjoying a successful year, with five students already holding offers to read Medicine.

Offers from every university

So far, seventeen Upper Sixth Formers have received offers from every university to which they applied. This is all well ahead of the university offer deadline in May and includes students from across the disciplines. William Seager (History), Senior Prefect Evie Taylor (Economics and Business Management) , Senior Prefect Priya Anand (Architecture) and George Brown (Civil Engineering) are amongst those now starting to make exciting decisions. Also included in this group are two students who joined SGS for Sixth Form in September 2022 – Sophie Roberts (Psychology) and Otto Wong (Quantity Surveying). Senior Prefect and First VII netballer Aimee Reynolds’s five offers to study Fine Art include an unconditional offer.

First XI footballer Harry Meanwell and First XI Hockey and Girls Football player Rhiannon Bailey-Manion have been offered places to study Physiotherapy in September 2024.

Each student’s UCAS Adviser and the Sixth Form team remain on hand to support them through every step of the application and decision-making process.

Degree and Higher Apprenticeships

University is just one of many fantastic options open to SGS students. Increasing number of pupils choose to pursue Degree and Higher Apprenticeship opportunities on highly selective programmes with leading companies. Several of our pupils are progressing strongly through rigorous selection processes in the finance and engineering sectors.

Support beyond SGS

Katy Rafter holds five offers to study Real Estate and Property Management in 2025, and is currently preparing her gap year plans for travels in Australia and South East Asia to be followed by a ski instructor course. Former pupil Joe Hughes (OS 2023) has accepted his confirmed place to study Ecology and Wildlife Conservation at the University of Reading in September. As with many recent Old Stops, Joe was supported with his application after his A Levels by a member of the SGS UCAS Adviser team, including during his time spent in Australia as part of his planned gap year.

Head of Sixth Form Mr David Stone

Head of Sixth Form Mr David Stone said: “Even with increasing competition in Higher Education, our Senior pupils continue to receive great offers from leading universities, as they make progress with their preparations for life beyond SGS. We recognise the importance of supporting the students and their parents in navigating the full breadth of options open to them for after school. Their hard work and research is complemented by the support and expertise extending from the UCAS Adviser team. As they prepare for the summer A Level examinations, there is lots for each individual to be excited about and motivated by.”
